Bring your children and come and join us!! Saturday, August 27th @ 10am
This month's Author for Storytelling In The Park is Erica S. Perl. Erica S. Perl writes picture books, novels, chapter books, plays, articles, and more. Her books have received accolades and awards, including the National Jewish Book Award, and three Sydney Taylor Medals (one silver, two bronze). They've also landed on State Book Award lists, “Best Books” lists, and library lists. Erica teaches and presents at schools, libraries, conferences, and festivals. Her author visits are educational, engaging, and empowering. This may be because she has a theater background, a law degree, and an ice cream truck driver's license! She lives in Washington, D.C. with her family. Her newest books for young readers is, WHEN CARROT MET COOKIE and WHEN WHALES FLY which she will probably read (along with some others depending on time!) at the Park on Saturday. Come join us for a wonderful story hour. Her website: http://www.ericaperl.com Sponsored by the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association 70th Anniversary Committee. The Holmes Run Acres Civic Association is hosting a neighborhood block party at the Holmes Run Pool!

The program for the meeting is as follows: The HRACA presents the ' Year In Review' , with short reports by the President and Committee Chairpersons Annual awards for Community Service and Distinguished Citizen are presented. Our main guest speaker will be Penny Gross, Mason District Supervisor. HRA has recently been moved from Providence District into Mason District. This is a major change, and we welcome our first opportunity to meet our new District Supervisor who will introduce us to Mason District's agenda. There will be a short Q and A following. A presentation on "Habitat Gardening" will be given by Joan Gottlieb and Whitney Redding. The ecological connection on how HRA yards tie into the Greater Holmes Run Stream Valley, and what plantings are best, accordingly, will be interesting to hear about. HRACA, as part of this year's Holmes Run Acres 70th Anniversary celebrations, presents a monthly storytelling event for children in Luria Park. Our first one in April was a big success, and we look forward to our May session on this coming Saturday morning.
Our May author is Megan Wagner Lloyd. She is the author of the kids’ graphic novel Allergic, co-created with illustrator Michelle Mee Nutter. She’s also the author of the picture books Finding Wild and Fort-Building Time, illustrated by Abigail Halpin, Building Books, illustrated by Brianne Farley, and Paper Mice, illustrated by Phoebe Wahl. She lives with her family in the Washington DC area. Megan will be reading her picture book Finding Wild, and if there are any older kids who would like to gather afterwards, she has offered to read excerpts from her middle grade graphic novel, Allergic, as well. There will also, once again, be a craft activity. Come join us with your children for an enjoyable story hour! The Holmes Run Acres Civic Association presents:
The 2022 House and Garden Tour Postponed to Saturday, May 21 from 11:00am to 3:00 pm The Holmes Run Acres Civic Association is excited to bring you the semi-annual HRA House and Garden Tour. This year is extra special because we are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Holmes Run Acres. We are all looking forward to exploring the endless possibilities that characterize our unique mid-century architecture and wonderfully wooded environment. Please plan to take the tour to see some of the great houses and gardens in our neighborhood. Begin the Tour at Woodburn School to get a list of houses. As you visit these houses, look for features that demonstrate our 70 years of history. Also look for updates that prove our houses can be adapted to our changing needs. Look for garden features that reveal a gardener’s touch as well as a responsiveness to nature. It has long been a tradition to include “works in progress” on the HRA House and Garden Tour. This year we also want to emphasize houses that have Curb Appeal. If you would like to show your home and/or garden on the tour, please contact us ASAP. We hope you enjoy the tour! As part of celebrating HRA's 70th year, there will be a MONTHLY CHILDREN'S STORY HOUR IN THE PARK. Once a month a well-known children's author will talk about their writing, and read from one of their books. Some benches are available, but we encourage bringing chairs or blankets for seating. Books will be available for purchase also.
